Merit Award: Glass
I am a lamp worker
from Duluth Minnesota. I create glass art, a form of glassblowing
using a torch or burner to heat glass enough to design
with. I create both functional items and sculptural art
objects such as beads, animal totems, variations of plant
life materials and abstract art about the mysterious great
galaxy. My influences are based on the different elements
of the natural world and its relationship to myself and
my Ojibwe heritage. For the past decade I have been traveling
the world observing and studying glassblowing traveling
to places such as California, New York, the Netherlands,
Murano Italy, Estonia, Jamaica, Australia, the Hawaiian
islands and Japan developing my personal styles as a glass
artist. I have participated in exhibitions of my artwork
and give glass blowing demonstrations at many local and
regional music and art festivals, and I exhibit and sell
my artwork at local galleries and gift shops in the Duluth
area.
